2016 looks to be an exciting year for the city of Port Huron. New projects are set to take shape this year, such as the CityFlatsHotel at the old Michigan National Bank building, a Boutique theater coming to where Sperry's used to be, as well as high-end condo's along the St. Clair River. Monday night during the City Council's regular meeting, development of the former YMCA property was discussed. Robert Wolfson, who is intending on developing the former YMCA property, was given a 60 day extension on the purchase of the property to get financing in place. Wolfson plans on developing the site into high-end condos. City Manager James Freed notes the $15-$20 million project is huge for the city, creating high end living and bringing high end customers to downtown Port Huron. Freed says construction is still set for mid to late summer. Before construction can begin on that development though, Freed says they have to re-have the water, sewer, and storm along Michigan St, Glenwood Ave and Beers St. updated. Also last night during the meeting Dan Casey, Executive Director of the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County gave a presentation on the organization's Strategic Plan for the county heading into the future at the meeting,. The council also scheduled several public hearings, including one on February 8th concerning liquor licenses in the city.
