School district looking to better inform public

Unless some quick changes are made it would appear that the Port Huron Area School Districts bond asking in May will see a lot less public engagement at least by school officials. That is the fear of the Director of Community Relations for the District, Keely Baribeau. The change comes following approval of a bill by Governor Rick Snyder which limits such discussions. She says getting information out about the ballot proposals has always been a key for local governments seeking additional tax dollars. The Governor says he is open to new legislation which could better clarify the bill. Meanwhile the District has set February 18th as a date for the first "State of the District" event. The morning session will give Superintendent James Cain a chance to update local officials on district programs and finances. Baribeau says it will be a session devoted to a wide range of items and not just the bond asking. She says to expect the item to be presented on a yearly basis
