If you have a loved one staying in the hospital, it can be trying to travel back and forth to the hospital everyday. The Hunter Hospitality House in Port Huron has two locations near local hospitals that provide a home away from home says Co-founder Tracey Willard. Open houses will be held at both Hunter Hospitality Houses locations Today. From 10-2pm at the Lake Huron Medical Center House, located at 2509 10th street. Then from 3-7pm at the McLaren Port Huron Hospital House located at 1010 Lincoln ave. Willard tells us Jules Becker, a volunteer at Hunter Hospitality Houses, will be giving a hula-hoop class at the first open house at 1:00pm. Then at 3:00pm at the second home, 8th graders from Central Middle School will playing Christmas music. A second home was added two years ago across from Lake Huron Medical Center. Willard says they've had well over 700 people stay at both homes in the 4 years they've been open. She notes that the homes are providing a service for the community that was needed. December 7th is also a special day for Jeff & Tracy Willard, founders of Hunter Hospitality House. On that day in 1991 their son Hunter was born prematurely. He survived for 16 days. During that time, Tracey drove back and forth from the hospital every night. That is where the idea came from to have a house near the hospital, where people could stay and not have to drive home every night.
