Off to the White House

Macomb county has been busy this month with some Welcoming America activities including a visit a visit to the White House. Macomb County Assistant Executive Pam Lavers and Health and Community Services Director Steve Gold headed to Washington D.C. this week. The two Macomb County representatives went to attend the Welcoming Communities Summit being put on by Welcoming America, a national organization working toward immigrant inclusion. Welcoming America also connects a large network of nonprofits and local governments supporting them through various plans, programs and policies. Gold and Lavers are attending the summit on behalf of the OneMacomb program, which supports increasing cultural diversity and inclusion efforts in the county. The OneMacomb program advocates for Macomb County by attending Race and Culture workshops, expanding opportunities for immigrant leadership, discussing topics like refugee placement and participating in a Legislative Action day. Lavers says that she is proud to be part of the Michigan delegation at the White House and that OneMacomb is committed in building a more welcoming county.
