The 2015 Ozone Action season came to an end with a surprise, no Ozone Action days called! The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments have announced the end of the 2015 Ozone Action season and it's the first time in the 22 years of the voluntary program where no Ozone Action days were called. Jim Haywood a meteorologist from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, who supply the forecast, says this was an uneventful season. Only two Ozone Days were issued in 2014, and three in 2013. SEMCOG Executive Director Kathleen Lomako says while this is great news, we still need to reduce air pollution. Tougher ozone standards are likely in the future which means we may have more Ozone Action days next summer. SEMCOG, which represent 4.7 million people in 7 counties, lists air quality as one of the important measures for creating desirable communities and a positive regional image for Southeast Michigan.
