Five area High Schools have been selected to receive $5,000 grants to increase college readiness. The Michigan College Access Network has selected Algonac, Capac, Yale, Port Huron, and Port Huron Northern to receive $5,000 grants each to boost their college-going rate. Michigan's college attainment rate of 37.4% lags behind the national average of 40%. One hundred thirty-nine schools applied for the Reach Higher grant in its first year. Grant recipients will establish Post secondary Advisory Councils made up of administrators, counselors, college advisers, teachers and members of community based-organizations.
