Local man takes own life after standoff with DTF

A Port Huron man took his own life shortly after 3:00 am this morning. The man was a suspect in a St. Clair County Drug Task Force investigation into the sale of narcotics. Before midnight on Tuesday DTF officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, who was a passenger in vehicle stopped at Speedy Q Market on Water Street in Port Huron Twp. As they approached the vehicle the man began waving a gun around and a woman who was driving was able to get out of the vehicle. The ST. Clair County Sheriff Special Response Team was called in and began negotiations with the suspect. Officers attempted to use pepper gas in an attempt to get the man to surrender, without success. Shortly after 3:00 am the suspect turned the gun on himself, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident.
