The Richmond Blue Devils beat Marysville 20-12 to open the high school football season on Thursday night. D'Sean Hamilton rushed for 90 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns, including a 55 yard run in the 4th quarter. The Vikings got two scores and 72 yards rushing from Ryan Ellul. Richmond begins league play in the BWAC against Yale next week, while Marysville opens play in the MAC-Gold at Port Huron Northern next Thursday night.
The Huskies lost in new coach Larry Roelens debut, 32-27 to Lake Shore. Northern QB Billy Fealko passed for 233 yards and rushed for 127, scoring a pair of touchdowns. PHN has not won a season opener since 2010.
Algonac snapped a 15 game losing streak to Marine City, beating the Mariners 19-18. It was the Muskrats first victory over Marine City since 1986.
