APPELLATE COURT MAY BE FINAL ANSWER IN CASINO CASE
The future of the Bay Mills Indian Community's casino in Northern Michigan could be answered later this month. It might also have an impact on a planned casino, on the south side of Port Huron, in the old Post Office area. The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled a conference for June 13th, to decide whether or not to hear the State of Michigan's petition to keep the 84 slot machine casino, in Vanderbilt, closed. Attorney General, Bill Schuette, has challenged the U.S. Solicitor General’s opinion that the Supreme Court does not need to review the case and that the petition should be denied. A similar land holding situation exists by the tribe in Port Huron.
