A special meeting tonight for the Port Huron Area School District Board of Education finds members addressing the question of whether or not to close Lakeport Elementary. The school was one of the buildings identified for closing by a facilities study committee a couple of years ago but was saved the fate as enrollment numbers were hoped to increase. They did not ad thus now the Superintendent recommends that it be closed. The numbers behind the decision and expectations of what happens next part of tonight’s presentation. The board has a 6:00 p.m. session set at the McKinley building along Riverside Drive. The opportunity for citizens to speak shows up early in the agenda. A board workshop is to follow the vote on closing the building.
