Frigid cold temperatures prompts city to open warming centers

Due to extremely cold temperatures expected this week, the City of Port Huron is making available several warming centers for community residents. According to the the office of the city manager, Palmer Park Recreation Center on Armour Street, Gartiot Village Comunity Center on Riverview Street, and Huron Village Community Center on Nern Street will all be open as warming centers through Friday. Furthermore, City Manager James Freed encourages those that do not need to be on the roads to stay indoors and to avoid parking on-street as often as possible to help our first res ponders and plow crews. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning from 6 o’clock Tuesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon for much of east-central Michigan. Forecasters say wind chills as low as 30 below zero are expected. The severe cold could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes. The cold temperatures have prompted all public schools in St. Clair and Sanilac Counties to close today, you can view the complete list here.
