Pot seized at the Blue Water Bridge

Officials at the Blue Water Bridge seized over 80 pounds worth of marijuana during vehicle inspections over the course of a week. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the pot was found in a commercial vehicles hauling bulk mail. The first vehicle was searched last Thursday after a canine unit alerted customs authorities to the presence of narcotics. Multiple searches over the following days resulted in a total of 80 pounds of marijuana found in several different commercial vehicles. The drivers of the vehicles, all Canadian citizens were questioned and released. The CBP says the marijuana will be destroyed by officials at a later date. Despite marijuana being legal in both Michigan and Canada, the drug remains illegal under federal law and it is not allowed to cross the international border.
