Unemployment falls statewide, locally

Michigan’s unemployment rate fell by a tenth of a percentage point to 4.0%  in September. Figures released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget show Michigan’s jobless rate was .3 of a percentage point higher than the national rate of 3.7% last month. The agency says total employment in Michigan rose slightly by one thousand during the month while the number of unemployed fell by eight thousand. Meanwhile, unemployment numbers in the City of Port Huron fell to a near record low of 5.8%. According to City Manager James Freed, Port Huron has seen the addition of over 12-hundred new jobs over the past four years resulting in a nearly 10%  drop in unemployment.
