Children will soon be playing on a new playground in Port Huron built completely by volunteers during a one-day event this past weekend. The new “KaBoom” play-scape at Optimist Park, funded by the Ralph C. Wilson Junior Foundation, was constructed on Saturday by a couple hundred volunteers from across the area. The playground was designed with the input of area children and has a nautical theme, with Port Huron Parks and Recreation Director Nancy Winzer says it will be accessible to everybody. Representing the Wilson Foundation Saturday was none other than Mary Wilson, widow of former Buffalo Bills owner and Detroit native Ralph Wilson. Mrs. Wilson, speaking at the ribbon cutting ceremony this past Saturday, commended the community on coming together to build the new play structure. It was designed with the input of area children and built completely by volunteers. Due to the large turnout, work on the playground wrapped up ahead of schedule. The Wilson foundation also has several other projects planned for the local area, including a grant to fix up the skate park at Optimist Park.
