City to explore forestry options

The City of Port Huron could be partnering with contractors to help remove and maintain dangerous trees located across the city. City Manager James Freed, speaking to WPHM yesterday, says the city’s forestry department has been backlogged and that he would like to bring in some contractors to help expedite the process. Freed, regarding the city’s forestry needs, says “we could utilize private contractors as needed…. they’re faster, better, and cheaper.” City Council met in a special session meeting yesterday where they decided to open up bids for the tree removal services. Responding to criticism about another outside contractor, Emterra Environmental – who assumed the city’s garbage contract last month – Freed says there were a few hiccups at the beginning but overall Emterra has been quick to fix their mistakes and is learning the routes.
