Deputy saves drowning man in Port Sanilac Harbor

An 18 year old Sandusky Man was rescued from the Port Sanilac Harbor yesterday afternoon after jumping into the Lake Huron waters and not resurfacing. The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division was on duty at the harbor when they noticed a group of people screaming for help. Marine Division Deputies rushed to the scene to discover the man had dove into the water but had not come back up. Deputy Zack Washkevich dove into the harbor to find the man unconscious in eight feet deep waters. He brought him to the surface where he was assisted by 56­ year ­old Vance Petretis and 42­ year ­old Jennifer Lance from Sandusky were nearby in the water on their jet skis. 49­ year ­old Dale Hunt from Lapeer also assisted in the rescue attempts. The drowning victim was brought to shore and taken to an area hospital then flown to Saginaw Covenant Hospital for medical treatment.
