Schools in the Port Huron Area School District won’t be seeing upgrades and improvements any time soon after voters in the district voted down two multi-million dollar bond proposals Tuesday. It was close throughout the night, but both bond proposals were eventually defeated. Although the bonds failed to pass the needs of the district haven’t changed, says School Board President Jeff Stout after the results were in. School Board member Brian Winters said that if effort equaled outcome he thinks the bonds would have passed. After the results were announced, school Superintendent Jamie Cain addressed the crowd of bond supporters and thanked everyone for their support and their tireless effort. Elsewhere voters in East China and Memphis also turned thumbs down on tax increases to support schools. In the case of Memphis a second ballot question concerning a non-homestead property tax renewal was approved. Meanwhile, in Port Huron and Fort Gratiot Township a millage renewal for Blue Water Transit was approved.
