3-to-15 years in prison….that’s the sentence handed down Friday morning for Trent Sheldon of Ft. Gratiot Township who was responsible for the traffic death of tow-truck driver Jason Schultz. St Clair County Circuit Court Judge Dan Kelly issued the ruling as per probation recommendations and state guidelines. The packed courtroom of family members and friends saw tearful statements from the victims family. Sheldon addressed the court briefly, saying he was sorry for the incident. Defense attorney Dan Dammon told the court that he believes the 18-year-old was sincere in his remorse. Sheldon was jailed earlier when his bond was revoked after testing positive for marijuana. If there is good behavior Sheldon could be released in three years….but for now it’s off to Jackson where he will soon be assigned to one of the state’s jails. He had plead guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated causing death. A Preferred Towing truck was parked in front of the county court building during the proceedings in Schultz’s memory.
