The Federal Aviation Administration will take a look at reasons why an ultra-light airplane crashed Thursday evening in Kimball Township. The incident sent the 64-year-old pilot to the hospital in and happened in the 700 block of Sturdevant Road. St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says the crash happened about 6pm shortly after he took off from a private air strip. Witnesses say the plane dipped once then nose dived toward the ground landing wing first, flipping, and ending upright. The pilot was the only person in the plane and was transported to a Detroit area hospital with undisclosed injuries. Donnellon says an investigation into reasons for the crash will likely start today.
