The St. Clair County Community Mental Health's Suicide Prevention Committee will be holding their first annual Walk 2 Remember, Walk 2 Prevent Fund-raising walk on October 11th at East China Park. Registration begins at 11am and the 5k walk begins at noon with opening ceremonies and a balloon launch. Amy Smith with Community Mental Health says if you think someone needs help, ask them if they are thinking about suicide. Also, you can call the Community Mental Health access line at 1-888-225-4447. Smith noted that in many cases suicide can be prevented but people don't know where to go to get help, they will be providing that information during the walk. In past years the CMH held a similar event "out of the darkness", through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, but all the funds raised went to the national organization. Smith says that was great, but that we need those dollars locally. For more information or to register you can go to: walk2remember.myevent.com
